What is World Class Manufacturing?The manufacturing industry is a worldwide operation. There are assembly plants in many countries. They want to sell their products in our country and the rest of Africa. But, we also export our products to their countries, especially Europe and America. This means that we compete with these countries for a specific customer. This raises some questions:
The answer is that they have focused to improve on all areas of business, and not only on some areas. They have a commitment to excellence. The Oliver Wight definition of commitment to excellence is: World Class Definition: “The company has an obsession with excellence. There is dissatisfaction with the status quo. Executives provide leadership necessary for change. They articulate the motivation for positive change and other core values. They communicate positive changes widely throughout the organisation, by actions as well as words”. Oliver Wight also developed a checklist for operational excellence. This is a test that determines where the company is at the moment, as opposed to where it should be. It can be seen as a Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis. |
